Many of us suffer with minor skin blemishes that can affect our confidence.

These issues are much more common than many people would think, due to a combination of factors including ageing, UV damage and certain health conditions.

ACP previously known as Advanced Electrolysis

Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP), previously known as Advanced Electrolysis, has been used to treat problems such as broken capillaries, spider naevi and warts. It has progressed dramatically with the ongoing development of modern technology and is a simple and safe technique. Electrolysis is used to successfully remove, visibly reduce and improve the appearance of unwanted skin blemishes, offering immediate and effective results.

Advanced Electrolysis uses a Thermolysis (heat) current and a very fine needle to either cauterise or lift away the superficial epidermis, depending on the type of blemish that is being treated.

What is ACP?

A variety of cosmetic skin blemishes and imperfections can be removed quickly and expertly, using Advanced Electrolysis techniques. The same thermolysis current used in permanent hair removal, is employed to gently coagulate or cauterise the lesion. It is non-invasive, non-surgical and can be done on any part of the head, face and body.

Why do I have skin blemishes?

There are a range of annoying skin blemishes that can seem to appear overnight and will not go away without assistance. Advanced electrolysis can be used to remove skin tags, milia, thread veins, blood spots, age spots, warts and verrucae, dermatosis papulosa nigra, xanthelasma, syringoma, sebaceous hyperplasia, seborrhoeic warts and moles (though moles are ‘shrunk’ to surrounding skin level, rather than being removed).

These blemishes can suddenly appear for a number of reasons. For instance:

  • Skin Tags can be the result of an hereditary factor, but can also occur due to friction from necklaces, shirt collars and ill fitting clothing (e.g. bras!), in people who are pre-disposed to suffering from them.
  • Thread veins are another very common occurrence, especially for fairer skins in the UK’s changeable climate. They can appear across the cheeks, chin and around the nose, whilst a variation, Spider Naevii, can be the result of injury.
  • Milia can occur for a variety of reasons, including incorrect skin care and inadequate protection.
  • The exact cause of Blood Spots, also known as Campbell de Morgan spots, is unknown, but their incidence seems to increase as we get older.

  • Warts and Verrucae are caused by a virus, meaning they can spread easily and quickly, so their speedy treatment and removal is recommended.
  • Age spots are caused by sun exposure. Good sun protection is advised to prevent further pigmentation developing.
  • Dermatosis papulosa nigra occurs on darker skin types. The pre-disposition to this condition tends to be genetically determined, so there is usually a family history.
  • Seborrhoeic warts are also known as seborrhoeic keratosis, and are not viral warts. It is not clear what causes them exactly. They tend to run in families, so genes may be involved, but normal skin ageing also plays a role as they are more common as we get older. Too much sun exposure may also be to blame.
  • The cause of Moles is not well understood, but it is thought to be an interaction of genetic factors and sun damage in most cases.
  • Xanthelasma – bumpy yellow patches on the eyelids or around the eyes – are not harmful, but can sometimes be an indicator of high cholesterol. It is a good idea to have these checked by your Doctor before they are removed.

  • Syringoma are caused by the sweat glands, in the fine skin below the eyes, becoming larger. They are most common in young adults, and there does seem to be a genetic pre-dispositon.

For all these conditions generally only one treatment is required and downtime is minimal.

How long will it take to recover from Advanced Electrolysis?

No recovery time as such is necessary. You can return to work and normal activities immediately after a treatment.

Depending on the particular skin condition being treated and the size of it, you can expect some post treatment discomfort and scabbing as the area heals.

If the area being treated is on your face, you may wish to plan treatment around social events if you do not wish to attend them before post-treatment healing has completed.

How do I learn more?
